Daniel Hogan started Hogan Security Group (HSG) with assistance from what is now the Mercer/Middlesex SBDC at The College of New Jersey 10 years ago. As a result of consulting and business planning assistance which led to access to startup capital, Hogan has grown his company into what Director Lorraine Allen terms, “a major player,” with security contracts with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merrill Lynch, the College of New Jersey, The Institute for Advanced Study and the Hopewell Valley School District.
After procuring funding, “The SBDC introduced me to Lear & Pannepacker CPA's, who have substantially improved our financial reporting techniques, implementation of sound cash flow management procedures and continued consulting on expansion and operational strategies,” said Hogan.
The company is focused on providing security products and services such as biometric access (hand and fingerprint) technologies, mechanical locking devices and consulting to school districts to implement the “Safe Schools” program.
HSG is also working with the New Jersey Security Center for Ingersoll Rand (IR) Security and Safety on the “Safe Schools” program and to develop a curriculum for training security technicians.
As a company started with SBDC assistance, HSG has grown over the years as an example of how starting with a good business plan and sound financial planning can help a company take advantage of industry trends such as the demand for security services.
