America’s SBDC New Jersey Sponsors Seminars/events Throughout National Small Business Week

SBDCs Facilitate Business Expansion, New Business Start-ups, and Jobs

(Newark, NJ – May 6, 2019) – America’s SBDC New Jersey will join in the celebration of the U.S. Small Business Administration National Small Business Week (May 5 through May 11) by scheduling diverse business events statewide aimed at all segments of the small business community.

Clients will also share their success stories due to the comprehensive assistance received from the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (NJSBDC), serving small businesses and entrepreneurs in all 21 counties. The program has notable impact on the lives and direction of entrepreneurs and small business owners. SBDC helps clients generate jobs, create new businesses and catalyze economic development in communities across New Jersey. The NJSBDC is part of a national network of SBDCs throughout the country.

“We’re celebrating national small business week with many different business seminars on important issues and topics that help small businesses deal with the ongoing challenges of developing and growing their business operations,” said Brenda Hopper, NJSBDC network chief executive officer and state director. “The network’s 12 centers statewide and specialty programs, including Technology Commercialization, E-Business, International Trade, Procurement, and Sustainability, help clients attain success.”

“Our 12 centers’ experts help our small business clients learn how to face the daily challenges in developing and building their business,” added Deborah Smarth, NJSBDC network chief operating officer and associate state director. “National Small Business Week emphasizes how important small businesses are. Our network’s mission focuses on providing guidance and assistance for our small business clients to achieve and sustain success.”

Some highlights of NJSBDC network events taking place May 5 – 11, 2019, include:

•At the NJSBDC at Brookdale Community College (Monmouth & Ocean counties), the Foodiepreneur event scheduled for Monday, May 6, at 9:00 am – 12:30 pm will provide existing and potential food entrepreneurs an overview and insights from experts in the field. Aimed at those who want to grow or launch a food business (e.g. restaurant, food truck, commercial food product and/or artisan goods) should take advantage. The event is being held at Ocean County College, Building 101, Auditorium.

•The NJSBDC at Kean University (Union County) is holding a special seminar at no cost in the morning of Thursday, May 9. Take advantage of the special session “Grow Your Business by Delivering the Right Message.

•The NJSBDC at New Jersey City University (Hudson County) will be conducting an “SBDC City Tour” during the entire National Small Business Week. The Center will be interviewing various successful Center clients throughout Hudson County (Jersey City, Bayonne, etc.) to highlight their entrepreneurial stories and how they succeeded as a result of the assistance provided to them by this Center. The interviews will be recorded and broadcast through social media and other key platforms.

•The NJSBDC of Northwest Jersey (Morris, Sussex, & Warren counties) is sponsoring a “Meet the Lenders” event on Tuesday, May 7, at 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Parsippany Library, 449 Halsey Road, Parsippany, NJ.

•The NJSBDC at Ramapo College of New Jersey (Bergen County) is hosting a “Minority Small Business Registration and Procurement Workshop” on Saturday, May 11, at 1:00 pm at the Anisfield School of Business.

•The NJSBDC at Raritan Valley Community College (Somerset County) is sponsoring a session on “Social Media to Promote Your Business” to help small businesses increase brand awareness and sales. The event will be held Wednesday, May 8, 6-9:00 pm at the Main Campus of Raritan Valley Community College, Workforce Training Center, 118 Lamington Rd. Branchburg, NJ. Course fee is $59.

•The NJSBDC at Raritan Valley Community College is also holding a session on “Crowdfunding: A New Alternative to Raising Working Capital” to show small business owners alternative ways of raising working capital. The session will be held Monday, May 6, from, 7-9 pm, at the Bound Brook Memorial Library, Finlayson Room, 402 E. High St., Bound Brook, NJ. This event is free.

•The NJSBDC at Rutgers-Newark (Essex County) will be participating in the “Latino Small Business Forum” hosted by the office of U.S. Senator Cory Booker at Montclair State University on Monday, May 6, at 9:00 am – 12 pm.

•The NJSBDC at Stockton University (Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland counties) will be sponsoring an event “Creating and Using Your Elevator Pitch” followed by networking, on Thursday, May 9, at 8:30 am – 10:30 am at Stockton’s Carnegie Center, Atlantic City, NJ. On Friday, May 10, the Center will sponsor “Creating and Using Your Marketing Calendar,” from 9:00 am – 10:30 am at Stockton University, Kramer Hall, Hammonton, NJ.

•The NJSBDC at The College of New Jersey (Mercer County), in collaboration with NJSBDC network Headquarters, is sponsoring “Women Warriors in Business” on Thursday, May 9, at 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, at The College of NJ Brower Student Center, Ewing, NJ. This is an annual event.

•The NJSBDC at William Paterson University (Passaic County) has scheduled a workshop “Strategic Marketing Planning” on Wednesday, May 8, at 11:00 am – 12:30 pm at 131 Ellison Street in Paterson. The course offers an overview of marketing strategies, use of traditional and digital media, and formulating a marketing budget as well as measuring results.
