Newark, NJ October 2024 – Launched on September 27, 2023, the South Jersey Resources for Growth initiative was created to strengthen the local economy by fostering collaboration among small businesses.
The New Jersey Small Business Development Center (NJSBDC) joined forces with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) and other notable partners, such as the New Jersey Business Action Center and the South Jersey Chamber of Commerce, to provide crucial support to South Jersey’s vibrant business community. On September 27, 2024, the 2nd Annual Resources for Growth event was held at Rowan College of South Jersey in Cumberland County, where over 200 business owners and organizations gathered to share resources and insights. This event provided networking opportunities, mentorship, and community-driven marketing strategies to help entrepreneurs increase visibility, attract customers, and build a sustainable business ecosystem.
A powerful demonstration of community collaboration and economic resilience, this initiative represents a unified effort to empower local entrepreneurs with the resources, partnerships, and mentorship needed to thrive in today’s competitive market.
“We believe that by working together, we can create a thriving ecosystem for small businesses in South Jersey,” said Mark Rizzo, Regional Director of the NJSBDC at Stockton University. “This initiative isn’t just about individual success—it’s about lifting each other up and strengthening the fabric of our community.”
Union-Somerset Counties Join Forces with NJSBDC for Economic Development
On October 15, 2024, a similar initiative took place in Union and Somerset counties, attracting over 300 registrants to a strategic event aimed at stimulating economic development and fostering collaboration. Hosted at Vintage City Offices, an NJSBDC satellite office at Rutgers University–Newark, this event brought together business leaders, financial institutions, and government agencies to deliver vital resources and support to local entrepreneurs.
Key highlights included educational sessions on financing, sustainability, and business development. Attendees participated in networking opportunities, panel discussions, and gained invaluable insights from notable partners such as the NJEDA, Northfield Bank, the SBA, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the Elizabeth Development Company, the Union County Office of Business Development, and Union County College.
The event also featured culinary contributions from local restaurants, including a Colombian breakfast sponsored by Kimberly Orozco, Albeiro Orozco, and Esther from Brisa’s Restaurant, and a Peruvian lunch catered by Ambar and Carlos Sumba from Norky’s Peruvian Restaurant.
“This is an example of how we truly are a valuable resource to the communities that we serve, ” said Kelly Brozyna, NJSBDC’s CEO and State Director. “We are thrilled to partner with all of the agencies that have support resources for Union and Somerset Counties. Stay tuned for more exciting resources to be rolled out!”
